Hasta Shilpa – Recreating History

With modern technology taking over our rich cultural values are getting degraded slowly. It’s time for us to realize that going forward our values and heritage for which we were celebrated all over the world will only be seen in the museums. The introduction of modern architecture, new raw materials, and consumer products have significantly changed people’s lifestyle but we hardly realize that our age-old traditional crafts and heritage building are steadily vanishing. Modernity is useful and inevitable, but it should not come at the price of sacrificing tradition. In this rapidly growing concrete jungle, cement and concrete have taken …

Above the Clouds – Genting Highlands, Malaysia

About six hours bus ride from Singapore and just a few hours ride from Kuala Lumpur is Southeast Asia’s famous Resort World Genting. Located 6000 feet above sea level, the mist covered mountains, cold breeze, and the inviting weather add up as a great getaway from the humid and hot weather of the city. Although the new Fox studios theme park renovation was still in progress when I visited, Genting highlands still has a lot more to offer. Genting Highlands is the only place in Malaysia with legal Casino, people from various places around Malaysia visit Genting mostly for gambling. The Genting Premium outlet is another key attraction in Genting it’s a Southeast Asia’s second Premium Outlet Center and the world’s first hilltop Premium Outlet Center. Featuring around 150 designers its a heaven for all the shopaholics. If you‘re interested, there are live performances by the world famous local and …

First World Hotel Review – Resort World Genting

When I decided to stay for a night in Genting Resorts, First world hotel was my choice. It’s the only budget-friendly hotel you can find in Genting Highlands. First world hotel holds a Genius record as world’s Largest Hotel with 7200 rooms. I reached Genting resorts at 4 am after a 5-hour’ journey from Singapore. The bus drops directly at the First World hotel entrance. A lush, tropical rainforest welcomes you at the main entrance. The reception area is tastefully designed giving a rich feeling to the reception, there is a minimum of 10 reception desks to help the guest for the quick check-in. Don’t be surprised if you had to wait for a few hours to get a room. Even though it’s the largest hotel sometimes you may have to wait a few hours for your room to be allocated. I really liked the self-check-in Kiosks. The type of rooms assigned to you is automatically allocated by the system according to the room category booked. You just need to scan your passport and select the type of room you need. You can also check in …

Chettinad Mansions and Conversations

I took a bite of that Idli from my plate dipped in three different kinds of chutney that were served along and it was love at first bite. Just a few hours before I was wondering whether I will be able to manage in this village, But when the local bus started from Karaikudi  I sat there admiring the misty landscapes, rustic mansions and the paddy fields from my bus window listening to Tamil songs playing on the bus Radio enjoying my ride with the locals. There is a direct bus to Karaikudi from Bangalore, the hotel you’re staying in can arrange transport from Karaikudi or you can take a local bus. As I admire this magnificent mansion in awe the local who came along to show me around explains about each portion and the way the house was traditionally used during family functions and marriages. With a minimum of …

My first Airbnb Experience

It was my first Airbnb experience, It’s not that I had not considered Airbnb in my previous travels just that most of my travels used to be sudden unplanned weekend trips and Airbnb may be unavailable for those selected dates. When I started planning for Singapore-Malaysia trip I explored so many hotels mostly the budget ones as you know how expensive Singapore can get. I realized a budget hotel in Singapore was not a good option that’s when I decided to give Airbnb a chance. Location was my first preference. I browsed through the results and shortlisted few and finally selected Goh’s(host) place.   On The Day I was aware I shouldn’t be expecting any luxury(maybe if you’re paying like $150 per day) and I will be leaving in someone …

It’s around 6 am and freezing weather, we were rushing down to reach our car after witnessing the beautiful sunrise in Tiger hills. when those first golden rays fall on the snow-covered Kanchenjunga, its treat to eyes. Our train journey from Darjeeling to Siliguri was at 8.30am. The tiger hill was so crowded, we had to park our car 1 km away from the sunrise point. Due to this huge traffic, It takes around 2 hours to reach back so our driver told us to rush back as soon as we witness the sunrise, don’t even wait for a minute else you …
